Women in Learning & Leadership Training II – GCU Lahore

The WILL (Women in Learning and Leadership) training under the FCTEW project was held at GCU Women Development Centre as part of the activities conducted under the 2022 Second All Pakistan Summit of the Student Societies. The event was marked with rigorous training of students on the modules ‘Social Inclusion and Gender’ and ‘Critical Thinking, Gender Equality, Peace Building’ and ‘Research, Women’s Literature – case studies from Pakistan and United States’ by trainers Dr. Munazza Yaqoob, Dr. Sofia Hussain, and Dr. Sonia Irum.

Advocate Khusboo Ali spoke as a guest speaker and delivered an engaging session on the legal empowerment of women in Pakistan.

The second day of the WILL training was marked with brainstorming activities and module discussions. Dr. Sonia Irum explained the patriarchal social structures we experience daily and how one needs to think critically to end gender-based oppression. She also encouraged students to foster flexibility, a pluralistic worldview, and the ability to discuss, listen, empathize, and logically to think.

Since the training session was held during 16 days of activism, the motivation and mentorship sessions were planned during the previous week. An open-mic session called “Speak your Heart” was held where participants shared their own stories and pieces of writing which left the audience teary-eyed.

The training session was attended by 51 students from different disciplines and universities.
